The incredible moment you hit a match-winning headshot, the last-second boss battle you nailed, or the perfectly timed chat-activated fart noise that erupts during your show – these are all truly legendary occurrences. But after the stream ends, they can fade into obscurity unless you do something to preserve them.
Luckily, Twitch offers several ways for creators to save their streams and let viewers watch them long after the show is over. One option is to turn the stream into a VOD or Highlight, which are recordings of past broadcasts with chat included. Once they’re saved, these videos can be accessed forever by viewers on their computer or mobile device. They can also be shared on social platforms to expand a viewer’s audience, rewatched for laughs, or used as clips for a YouTube compilation video or channel trailer.
If you’re a streamer, you can enable this feature by switching on the toggle underneath the ‘Store Past Broadcasts’ section of your Streaming Settings. After that, whenever you hit a moment you want to keep as a Highlight, just select it during the stream and click the ’Make a Highlight’ button. This will keep it up on your channel as a VOD for 14 days standard users or 60 days Twitch Partners, Prime, and Turbo users.
But what if you don’t have the luxury of relying on viewers to save your streams for you? Maybe someone was too distracted to clip your show, or maybe they didn’t think of it until after the stream had ended. In those situations, you can use the ’Marker’ function during your stream to mark a specific point in the video that you want saved as a Highlight.
Once you’ve marked a part of the video that you want to save as a Highlight, it will automatically be saved for you as a VOD or Highlight when your stream is over. Once the time limit has passed, you can view your VODs by heading to the Content section of your Creator Dashboard, then selecting Streaming and then Video Producer.
Alternatively, you can download your VODs using a third-party application like Twitch Leecher. Simply paste the link from the URL box and choose your preferred video quality, start and end points of the clip, and other options to create your perfect download. Once you’ve downloaded your VOD, you can then import it into a video editing tool like Filmora to further edit and enhance it.
Save Twitch video highlights are a great way to make your best moments on the platform accessible for fans at any time. Whether they’re used for new viewers to find your channel, to bolster your YouTube video rankings, or as an ingredient in your next channel trailer, highlights help build your online presence and give you that edge you need to take your stream to the next level.
